How much wine will I need?

How many wines should you serve? If you serve a white wine before the meal you can carry it through the first course, then you can switch for the main course (you might like to offer a choice of white or red). And if it’s a formal dinner you might want to serve a sweet dessert wine. Allow roughly two thirds of a bottle (four glasses) per head although, bizarrely, the more guests you have the less wine per head you tend to need.

Finally, don’t worry too much. Remember, the vast majority of people don’t mind what they drink as long as there’s enough of it!

How many glasses per bottle?

For a cocktail party, below is a guide of how many glasses of wine you can usually plan on pouring out of one bottle. You'll tend to get one or two more glasses out of a bottle of bubbly. For a true wine tasting party, you can plan on pouring 10-12 glasses per bottle for a "taste" of each wine.
